VIRTUAL  MDFC

MDFC  VIRTUAL  CLUB  

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the club is currently meeting online for group practices and outdoors on a limited basis for private lessons (we have moved out of our previous facility in Abingdon). Online group practices will run fencers through footwork and bladework drills to get fencers back into shape, learn new skills, and reconnect with club members. 

WHAT YOU NEED TO PARTICIPATE
  • current USA Fencing membership (Non-Competitive or Competitive)
  • athletic clothing and shoes
  • an internet-connected device with a camera and microphone 
  • Zoom teleconferencing application and a Zoom basic (free) account 
  • minimum 5 ft. x 8ft. space with a floor you can do footwork on
  • two epees -OR-
  • one epee and 3' long cylinder object (broom handle, thin PVC pipe, lacrosse stick, etc.) -OR-
  • two 3 -3.5 ft. long cylinder objects (broom handle, PVC pipe, etc.)

EXTRA THINGS THAT WILL HELP
  • a filled water bottle
  • a jump rope
  • small hand weights or a weighted bar
  • a padded target firmly mounted on a wall -OR-
  • a punching bag or similar heavy target that can withstand epee points
  • a ball hanging from a string or chain hanging about 3'-4' above the ground
  • a enough space that the camera can see you from head to toe as you lunge
  • a fencing glove to hold your epee
  • a long rope/chain with three balls spaced 1' or more apart that can swing
  • music on your headphones is fine if you can hear instructions

SUMMER OUTDOOR PRIVATE LESSONS
Outdoor private lessons by appointment only. Contact Coach Paye for details. Scheduling will be very limited and affected by weather. Fencers must wear a mask over the nose and mouth in addition to a fencing mask, and must follow safe social distancing rules. Lessons will be held near 230 Choice Street in downtown Bel Air, near the Shop Rite on Main Street. Park on Choice Street, walk north to the Hickory Hills service driveway, walk in, walk left of the service building, look left.
